Pulling Up the Big Girl Panties

Posted on 10:38 AM by Unknown
In my heart, I love to travel. It is my head that gets in the way. I am supposed to be packing. Doing laundry. Confirming reservations.I am not doing these things.

I have 12 more hours and I've wasted time. I'll be fine. Once I've typed this out of my system.

Saturday I was in a department store. I turned the corner and saw these items for sale. None in my size. Not that I would wear Hello Kitty panties. I would not. Never. On this I swear.

Batgirl or Wonder Woman? Perhaps. Not that anyone has seen me naked lately but I'd have some explaining to do. Then again if I have to explain maybe the relationship is not meant to be. But if I was with a guy who wore Joker underwear I would be extremely concerned.

I am a hypocrite. And anyway, just because it was in the women's undies section who is to say those are Batgirl's panties? It could be the main Bat.  I don't want to wear Batman's underway. Love the guy but he is a little tense. Sticking with Batgirl.

I have the opportunity to see old friends. Meet new people. Learn things I do not know. Confirm that I am still here. The little kid would couldn't imaging this trip. The depressed adult that wasn't sure it was worth it to go on. The office drone that longs to bust out of the cubicle.

Here it is. This is the time. I can do this. It is okay. I can chose to eat alone or with people. I can introduce myself to the other. It has been a while since I've challenged myself.

I can do the best that I can and for god's sake not judge myself against other people. It messes with being present in the here and now.

I'm scared. In a good way.

So with this I'm pulling up the invisible big girl panties. All I need  now is a cape. Or some rocking boots.

Once More Into the Daylight

Posted on 6:04 AM by Unknown
I really don't want to go outside. Because once I do I have to commit to facing another day. I have to go through this day in order to get to Saturday and Sunday.

I have to put on the big girl panties and deal with people, rules, conflicting rules, being held accountable by the conflicting rules and then taking a huge breath and remembering it really does not matter.

Not one bit.

I bought a magazine called Light of Consciousness. I think it is for folks that want to apply Buddhist principles in everyday life. I'm not a Buddhist but I'm willing to learn anything to help suppress my desire to beat stupid people with a wet noodle.

A wet noodle attached to a Cat-of-9 tails.

For Aaron's Birthday - The Full Dose of the Funky Chicken

Posted on 7:18 PM by Unknown
There are times when you are funky and there are times when you need the power of The Funk to lift you to a higher space.

I don't know Aaron Vest because his wife twitters 72.8 times more than he does. I have met him once or twice but not a day goes by without Mrs. Vest throwing a tweet or two in his direction.

This is for his birthday and since I don't know what to get a man who has everything, even in the mist of a hell, high water and is that a tsunami about to break? kind of year.

This is the full get up off that thing version of Mr. Rufus Thomas and the Funky Chicken. Grab a thigh bone and do what you can. Those with wing trouble can sway and cluck, same thing but don't over do it.

Pace yourself. These are professional dancing cluckers.

Ring My Bell on the Finally Friday Freakout

Posted on 5:21 AM by Unknown
You know what the biggest surprise is about the Bell city council story? That the Los Angeles Times actually investigated and created a news story worth reading. The reports about fiscal mischief is what newspapers are supposed to do.

To pay attention to the local community. This story has resonated with everybody cuz if tiny Bell is on the scoop and dupe then we might have a solution to the budget crises. This is what you need a bean counter for; not to run television shows but to do the government numbers like taking a lice comb through school kids hair.

You are going to come up with something. So in honor of the L.A. Times not running another story about Lindsey or Mel, for allowing non-AP content on the front page and in full recognition that they are gonna milking this story for all it is worth and then some, I give you Ring My Bell by Ann Lee.

I would have linked to the Anita Ward version but Warner is not fooling about yanking stuff down, if you catch my drift. Anyway this is a fun, dance inspired version. Very respectable.

Unlike those rascals in the city government of Bell,California.

Damn. I see multiple investigations. I see people booking a flight to a non-reciprocating country. I see someone looking for the guy in MacArthur Park who specializes in reconfigured identities.

Love Rollercoaster on the Finally Friday Freakout

Posted on 5:14 PM by Unknown
I picked up an issues of a mighty fine magazine called Wax Poetics because on the cover there was a photo of the Ohio Players. If Parliament/Funkadelic was playing on the radio then it had to be the Ohio Players. And where there was the Ohio Players there was Sugar with that lovely afro and that thumping bass.

There is a great article about Sugar's time with the band and how love is indeed a roller coaster when folks you trust don't pay the tax man. It isn't the show part that does musicians in.

It is not knowing or understanding the business that can really mess you up.

I still own some of their album so it is only right and proper that the weekend starts off with a little Wolfman Jack and a whole bunch of Love Rollercoaster.

I just learned at the Wax Poetics In Memoriam page such as the passing of Steve Reid, who I did not know played drum/percussion on a pound and a half of Motown recordings.

Note to self, avoid reading In Memorian pages. You might find people you should know or people you do know. Either way I get bummed out.

Speaking of bummed out I have to clean something that is calling my attention in a most undesirable way.

Baby Take Your Time on The Finally Friday Freakout

Posted on 4:05 PM by Unknown
Shoes are off. Spaghetti is moving from a solid form to something more playable. Found cheese in the what passes for a refrigerator. I'm giving thanks that I wasn't one of the people that got a pink slip this week.

That would be made redundant for my UK peeps.

Nothing is over; don't believe the recovery hype. Do not switch to grasshopper mode just yet. Contingency living planning is in full effect. You might want to dig out that emergency kit and re-stock too.

Politically, folks is acting ape shiz crazy. People need to chill, that caffeine in the tea you are drinking is too strong for your system. Too many tea parties are messing with your brain.

That is a discussion for later. It is Friday and time to boogie down. In the Groove Yard tonight is a clip from Solid Gold and the SOS Band.

I am in need of some SOS because I bought blackberries and have to find a way to use them. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Frozen blackberries at 99 cents each. I took a bite and they were not as I anticipated. A little on the astringent side.

The good news is that I have soy milk, honey and a blender. I also seem to have semi-sweet chocolate.

Hmmm.

Let's Groove on the Finally Friday Freakout

Posted on 12:06 PM by Unknown
These are the times for conscious healing and transitions. It is a time for finding solace and joy and the liberal (or conservative) application as your needs demand.

Me? I needed extra sleep so that is why the Freakout is being posted on Saturday.

For your musical balm of the week coming out of the Grooveyard is the beloved Earth, Wind and Fire with their spacey rendition of Let's Groove

So that is the thought for the next week. If you are in Staycation or airborne mode this is your life; let's groove while we still have the chance.
